Thousands of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and Leaders are gearing up to attend StarCamp, our spectacular BSA Centennial Celebration. This outstanding event, scheduled for the weekend of May 21-23, will feature exciting program in a great outdoor setting. Program details are being announced, fees have been determined, and online registration will open in late February.
Outstanding Program
Great program is what StarCamp is all about! The list of exciting planned offerings grows daily and includes everything from rocket launching to skateboarding, BMX bicycling to giant catapults, black powder rifle shooting to rappelling, a Ropes Course, Extreme Zip Line, and more. Multiple Action Areas are planned for all youth participants, including Climbing & Ropes, Communication, Cultures, Emergency Preparation, Environmental, Historical, Pioneering, Wheels of Wonder, Ranges, Space & Aviation, Sports, Survival, and Team Building.
Participants will also enjoy demonstrations by law enforcement and fire fighters such as the Hennepin County Divers, visits by the State Patrol Helicopter, and an Air Force F22 Cockpit, the First Minnesota Civil War Regiment, the DNR Electronic Shooting Expo, historical Scouting displays, and much more. The event will showcase entertainment at two stage shows, with live music by “Jonah and the Whales”, as well as an evening fireworks show. Many of the activities and demonstrations will tie into advancement requirements at all levels of Scouting.
New Site
StarCamp will now take place at our own Stearns Scout Camp, near Annandale, MN. Our planned location has changed to one of our own Scout Camps, because there has been a disagreement between government agencies about who can use the Arden Hills site. This occurred at the eleventh hour, and we don't want our Scouts to be caught in the middle.
Stearns is a great setting for this event, with over 1,200 acres of fields, woods, lakes and streams, along with amenities and activity structures we did not have before. While the Arden Hills location did have closer proximity to the metro area, Stearns Scout Camp provides better facilities and more program opportunities for participants. Moving to Stearns also allowed us to lower the event fee though use of existing facilities. And any changes we make to the camp’s activity structures can become permanent improvements, rather than only lasting for a weekend.
